Conservatives are not particularly happy that Vogue chose First Lady Jill Biden for its current cover, claiming the magazine snubbed Biden’s predecessor, Melania Trump. But the former first lady has had a long relationship with the well-respected magazine long before her time at the White House, and the fact is, the magazine reached out to Melania not long after her husband’s inauguration, in the hopes of doing a profile of the then-first lady.

However, there was no guarantee that she would appear on the front cover, noted long-time Vogue staffer Stephanie Winston Wolkoff, a former friend of Melania Trump and author of the book Melania and Me: The Rise and Fall of My Friendship With The First Lady.

Melania turned the magazine’s request down, specifically because she wasn’t guaranteed the cover, wrote Winston Wolkoff, who was her adviser at the time. She left that position in February 2018.

Vogue reached out to Melania, hoping to schedule an Annie Liebovitz photoshoot of the First Lady in the White House, with writer Rob Haskell shadowing her for a few days to write a profile,” Winston Wolkoff wrote. “All that sounded great but the magazine could not guarantee that Melania would appear on the cover.”

“For the record, not all First Ladies are put on the cover of Vogue. Michelle Obama and Hillary Clinton yes. Laura and Barbara Bush no,” Winston Wolkoff wrote. “Melania wasn’t going or any other magazine if she wasn’t going to be on the cover. ‘Give me a break,’ she texted. ‘Forget it.'”

But here’s something else that’s “for the record:” Melania has appeared on the cover of Vogue before — as a bride in 2005. So the nattering nabobs of nothingness who are whining “oh poor Melania” are clueless as usual.

Winston Wolkoff, later in her book, highlighted Melania’s cattiness, especially in regards to adult actress Stormy Daniels.

“Annie Liebovitz shot the p*rn h**ker,” Melania told her.

“I’m so glad I didn’t do that profile in Vogue,” she reportedly said, according to Wolkoff. “You know, they came back two months ago and asked me to do it again. ‘It might be a cover,’ they said. Are you kidding me? I don’t give a f**k about Vogue or any other magazine. They would never put me on the cover.”

During her time as the first lady, Melania seemed imperious, unreachable, unlike Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden, who are two excellent role models for girls. I remember Obama’s emphasis on physical fitness and health. And Jill Biden who oozes kindness. Melania always appeared rather chilly and diffident.

That’s what she will be remembered for.
