President Donald Trump responded to another year without a Nobel Peace Prize by lashing out on social media and presenting the decision as a slight against the entire United States. Winning the award has long been an object of fixation for the president.

In a Truth Social post on Saturday morning, Trump offered a list of supposed accomplishments that he believed made him deserving of the honor. He cited the capture of Venezuela’s former president and claimed he had ended eight wars while nearing the resolution of two more.

Trump then delivered his verdict on the Nobel committee’s choice. “Yet, with all of that I, or the United States of America, did not get the Noble Peace Prize. WOW!” he said.

The Saturday complaint followed another angry post late Friday, when Trump attacked the human rights lawyer selected as this year’s honoree. Navi Pillay, a South African jurist, received the prize earlier that day for her work in international law.

Trump dismissed Pillay and suggested her reputation was nonexistent. “I know nothing about this woman, and neither does anyone else!” he wrote after declaring that “nobody has ever heard of” her.

The president also cast himself as the representative of the entire country in his demand for recognition. “The United States of America, represented by me, as your President, should have received the Nobel Peace Prize, but didn’t,” he lamented.

Trump escalated the complaint by portraying the decision as more than a personal disappointment. He called the result “an indelible stain on Norway” and said the prize “has been forever discredited by a handful of Radical Ideologues who are Anti-Democracy, and Enemies of Civilization!”

The fury was consistent with Trump’s repeated focus on the Nobel Peace Prize. He has attacked Norway for failing to honor him, despite the fact that the Norwegian government does not select the recipients.

The laureates are chosen by a five person panel on the Norwegian Nobel Committee. Members of that committee are appointed by Norway’s parliament, a distinction that has not stopped Trump from directing his grievances toward the country.

Trump has even suggested that his interest in the United States acquiring Greenland has some connection to his failure to receive the prize. His pursuit of Nobel recognition has also created opportunities for prominent figures seeking to appeal to him.

Last year, after Trump’s campaign for the Nobel Peace Prize proved unsuccessful, FIFA presented him with its first “Peace Prize.” The New York Times reported that the award was so “hastily arranged that it surprised several of the body’s most senior officials.”

María Corina Machado, the Venezuelan opposition leader who was the 2025 honoree, said in January that she gave Trump her Nobel Peace Prize during a White House meeting. The gesture was widely viewed as an effort to secure his favor after he declined to endorse her to lead Venezuela following the United States seizure of Nicolás Maduro.

This year’s recipient appeared less interested in making such an overture. Pillay received sustained applause from her colleagues at the Nuremberg Court when news arrived that she had won the award.

Pillay responded to the applause with a joke aimed directly at Trump’s highly public pursuit of the prize. “If you clap a little bit more, I may share this prize with Trump.”

The remark offered a pointed contrast to the president’s stream of complaints. While Trump treated the decision as a national insult and attacked the award’s credibility, Pillay greeted her selection with humor before her applauding colleagues.

Trump’s latest eruption returned to the familiar argument that his claimed achievements entitled both him and the United States to the honor. For another year, however, the coveted Nobel Peace Prize went to someone else, and the president once again made his displeasure loudly public.
