Donald Trump has spent years insisting Americans should believe he won the 2020 election. On Tuesday, the president’s newly unveiled America.gov portal needed only seconds to deliver the answer he has long resisted: certified results show Joseph R Biden Jr won.

Trump presented the AI powered site as a futuristic “front door” to the federal government. The portal is pitched as a single destination that can spare Americans from sorting through a maze of clunky government websites while delivering information quickly and accurately.

“This is a very big, very important thing,” Trump said while unveiling the website at a Tuesday forum attended by cabinet officials and technology leaders. The site arrived with ambitions considerably larger than protecting presidential feelings.

America.gov went live Tuesday with a search bar that generates AI chatbot style responses to users’ questions. It is eventually intended to help people find jobs, search government websites, enroll in Medicare and renew passports.

The Daily Beast asked the portal whether Trump won the 2020 election. “No. Official certified results show Joseph R Biden Jr won the 2020 election,” it replied, while also providing the Electoral College and popular vote results.

The outlet also asked how someone could obtain the $5,000 dividend Trump promised in an announcement at the GOP convention last month. “The President’s quoted condition is that Republicans win the House and the Senate,” the portal replied.

Asked from the perspective of someone interested in joining the military but worried about job security how many people Pete Hegseth had fired, the site was less definitive. “I can not give a verified number,” came the answer.

The portal also fielded a question about the Pentagon’s legal department name. “The legal name is still the Department of War.”

The website received a suitably enormous technology industry launch at Washington’s gilded Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium. Trump appeared with cabinet officials and what the source described as a parade of Silicon Valley royalty.

Elon Musk, Nvidia boss Jensen Huang and Blue Origin CEO Dave Limp were among the headline guests at the Tuesday event. The star studded rollout presented America.gov as a sweeping effort to change how Americans interact with federal agencies.

Later, Trump was due to host a White House lunch with Anthropic’s Dario Amodei, Meta’s Mark Zuckerberg and Google’s Sundar Pichai. Nvidia’s Huang, Palantir’s Alex Karp and OpenAI’s Greg Brockman were also expected to attend.

The polished launch did not prevent some decidedly less futuristic problems. Members of the public who attempted to navigate the website Tuesday were often met with a simple message: “Chat is unavailable right now.”

Despite the America.gov branding, the website also appears to use images that are not from the United States. One rotating homepage photograph shows an Asian woman and young child and closely resembles a stock photo titled “Adorable girl and mother using digital tablet,” from a photographer based in Beijing.

For now, the site can answer questions and direct users through the steps needed to complete different tasks themselves. Officials say citizens should be able to complete government forms and track the status of various applications through the site by 2027.

Airbnb founder Joe Gebbia, who runs the administration’s National Design Studio, is behind the project along with Peter Arnell, the administration’s first “chief brand architect.” Arnell has worked on brands including Pepsi, Chrysler and M&M’s and is perhaps best known for the spectacularly ill fated 2009 Tropicana redesign.

Edward “Big Balls” Coristine, the former DOGE goon, now serves as the National Design Studio’s head of engineering. Trump called America.gov the beginning of a government wide digital makeover, but its first major achievement may be much simpler: fact checking the president’s election lie.
