After insisting for many months that Texas do a recount and audit of their 2020 election, Texas finally agreed, but unfortunately for the former POTUS findings released New Year’s Eve showed absolutely nothing out of the ordinary. Only the first phase of data was released by the Secretary of State’s office, but it included 4 counties and over 35% of the state’s overall votes.
Though there were a few very minor discrepancies during the manual vote count, averaging around being 10 votes off, all these differences were easily explained, such as simple human error during the counting process. Along with the recounts, the first phase is also including security assessments.
John Scott, the Secretary of State in Texas, formerly represented Donald Trump in his legal battle to overturn the 2020 election, but now says that he hopes this audit will restore his state’s faith in their safe and secure elections.
Scott also said that this election audit is his top priority right now, which is interesting since the results, which did not agree with his own misinformation campaign, were released discreetly and on a huge national holiday. The audit is only taking place because Trump wrote Texas Gov. Greg Abbott in September saying that, “Texans have big questions” and “know voting fraud occurred in some of their counties.”
Trump calling for an audit and calling the election a “scam” in a state where he won by such a vast majority is truly nonsensical, and shows that he cares less about the actual results of the elections, and more about putting fear and doubt in the minds of American citizens.
