With the holidays in full swing, it’s possible to miss some stuff that is either intentionally released under the radar, or just lost amidst all the stories about packed airports, canceled flights, and COVID spreading everywhere.
We missed the fact that Trump issued a highly relevant and highly untruthful, misdirection of a statement issued on the night of the 29th. While it is a failure on our part it might be symbolic of a good thing. It is much harder for Trump to get his boasts and thoughts out to the public now without his own Twitter account. Thus it is that very few noticed when Trump wanted to brag that the “Unselect Committee” (Ha ha, he is so clever at these nicknames!) is afraid of him and the Republicans, as “proven” by the fact that the Committee withdrew a portion of its request for documents, all in order to protect Hunter and Joe Biden down the road. According to Trump:
“The Unselect Committee of Radical Left Democrats, and two failed Republicans, has just dropped a large portion of their request for my records and documents—a very big story even though the New York Times refused to put it on the front page.
The reason that they dropped the records request is that they don’t want this horror show to happen to Biden and Hunter in three years. This also changes the entire complexion of their request, not that there are any documents that would be incriminating or a problem for me, but the Witch Hunt continues!”
NEW!

It is just a “witch hunt” and yet the witch, in this case, has done all he could to hide every scrap of evidence and intimidate every possible witness. But there is nothing to investigate.
The statement itself matters less than one might think because… “Surprise!” he’s lying. Lynn Cheney, who seems to be in a better position to know what the committee is and is not doing, “clarified” what actually happened.
False. The @January6thCmte hasn’t dropped requests for any necessary records. In fact, we’re actively litigating to obtain White House records Trump is trying to conceal. We will not allow him to hide the truth about January 6th, or his conduct, from the American people.

Those bolded words… Cheney knows how to send a message, does she not?
The Committee chose to change the wording of the language as to the documents they seek to make it easier for the National Archives to hand over exactly what they’re looking for and to take a lot of air out of Trump’s argument to the SCOTUS that the request is overly broad and could be considered a fishing expedition, seeking stuff having nothing to do with the actual crimes. This happens all the time in lawsuits. The Committee still wants every record that it believes could be relevant, it’s just trying to keep the language tight so as to not ask for meaningless materials or give the Court an excuse to send it back.
It is called being smart.
