Nothing was “codified” in the Declaration of Independence, which happens to have been more of a letter, and certainly not a law. But that’s the least of Ron DeSantis’s worries today.
Ron DeSantis’s Martin Luther King Day tweet implies that a modern-day MLK would be fighting for people’s rights to not wear masks, not be vaccinated, not be taught critical race theory, and – this part is actually true – telling businesses that they had to serve everyone equally. You see, Martin Luther King’s primary message was about freedom for everyone, especially the most oppressed people in America, the Christian white male.
King would have nothing to say about the new voting rights being passed in red states everywhere, at least not in DeSantis’s self-serving world.
That is how Ron DeSantis’s Martin Luther King tweet reads, and – no, we’re not kidding. DeSantis tweets such a thing, despite the fact that Martin Luther King was martyred precisely because he was demanding equal voting rights in the south and equal treatment of Black Americans, not “equality” for all, and certainly not the “equality” in the Declaration of Independence. Indeed, in his speech on the Mall, King referenced the “all men are created equal” as a blank check, with insufficient funds, and that they were there to collect on that check.

Yes, perhaps King’s most famous words were “free at last, free at last…” but he was not talking about freedom from the CDC or freedom from CRT. But none of that mattered today for DeSantis, who very much had his own agenda on MLK day:

That is so offensive one just wants to indict the entire MAGA movement, that movement that has adopted Martin Luther King as their own, while hating the people alive today carrying on King’s fight, Jackson, Sharpton, Obama, Reid, and many others, all hated.
