There is not a single person on this staff who would kiss someone who voted for Trump and so we’re not exactly sure why this is so surprising to the MAGAs, but it sure is making them angry.
As Axios reports:
Nearly a quarter of college students wouldn’t be friends with someone who voted for the other presidential candidate — with Democrats far more likely to dismiss people than Republicans — according to new Generation Lab/Axios polling.
Why it matters: Partisan divides — as each side inhabits parallel political, cultural and media universes —make a future of discord and distrust in the U.S. all the more likely.
By the numbers: 5% of Republicans said they wouldn’t be friends with someone from the opposite party, compared to 37% of Democrats.
71% of Democrats wouldn’t go on a date with someone with opposing views, versus 31% of Republicans.
30% of Democrats — and 7% of Republicans — wouldn’t work for someone who voted differently from them.
It is shocking that this surprises them. Maybe they are mad that it’s not the other way around? But this is easily explained.
Donald Trump was the most dividing figure in modern American history. If you didn’t support him, he hated you, which means all of us. There is no point in associating oneself with people who follow a guy who does all he can to divide people! Joe Biden is far more likeable and cares about people who don’t support him. It would have to remain true of his supporters, too.
Conservatives are not happy:
This doesn’t bode well. “By the numbers: 5% of Republicans said they wouldn't be friends with someone from the opposite party, compared to 37% of Democrats.” https://t.co/cOy2qFSzYj

This is probably the most terrifying bit..
Right up there with the friends thing. pic.twitter.com/t1thnqP0AG— Andrew Follett (@AndrewCFollett) December 8, 2021
One of the best things about working on Capitol Hill was going out after work with friends – and I never cared what party they belonged to. It’s terrible that those days seem over.

And maybe it means that Joe Biden just isn’t that bad a guy and nowhere near as monstrous as we’re told to believe on Fox and Hannity.
Eh, it seems like they’re just mad, it’s not the other way around, and another instance in which people who get an education understand that Trump is a con man and a dangerous clown.

Liberals tried to explain:
Four out of 10 Dems would not shop at or support a business of Trump voters. Just 7% of Republicans felt the same way about Biden voters.
Three in 10 Biden voters would not work for someone who voted for Trump. Just 7% of Trump voters felt that way about a Biden-voting boss.

They despise them because they’re racist and accepting of racists bering in their party. That’s a good thing. https://t.co/FqprWNzYky

What a cute note. Yes, it's terrible Those Days seem over. But not because 71% of young Democrats won't date a GOP — but because today's GOP is literally fascist, enabled an insurrection & are trying to overthrow democracy. And you & the W. Administration helped open the door. https://t.co/XwKQauFq8E
