There are not a lot of things that stay fresh and-or relevant forever. Dolly Parton comes close, maybe Betty White, Beatles songs gain power, some wines get better, the list is short and doesn’t include many politicians.

It is that much harder when one is intense. A GOP strategist has now written an article in the Daily Beast that suggests that Trump has reached his nadir and now gently slopping down with respect to his power over the GOP.

Matt Lewis, by way of the National Journal makes a quality case that, at least with respect to endorsements, Trump’s power seems to be on a glideslope:

National Journal’s Josh Kraushaar recently listed a few data points that suggest that his glow may be fading. First, Trump’s endorsed candidate, Sean Parnell, was forced to drop out of the U.S. Senate race in Pennsylvania. Second, Trump’s endorsed U.S. Senate candidate in Alabama, Rep. Mo Brooks, is losing ground to a younger candidate named Katie Britt. Third, the much-hyped Trump-Bill O’Reilly tour kicked off with a lot of empty seats. And fourth, Trump’s endorsed candidate in a Texas special election, Susan Wright, was defeated in a race to replace her late husband.

We will also point out that Trump was shunned in the Virginia governor’s race, practically told to stay away.

It is especially hard to maintain “freshness” when you must be in the center of discussion every day. If Trump made himself a bit scarce and only put out statements once every 2 weeks, appeared only once a month, perhaps the MAGAs would get more excited.

But if a day goes by in which Trump isn’t in the news, it’s a wasted day in Trump’s mind. Good news or bad news, it doesn’t matter. He has to be the center of attention. So long as it is bad news, we’re happy to make him happy, and we’ll publish the bad news.

His grip is sliding. Mitch McConnell beat him last week on the debt default, too.
