It was self-evident to everyone with an objective view of the Trumps that Melania detested Ivanka.

Given that both of them are just horrible people, we’re certainly not taking sides in this frozen relationship. But it is probably safe to say that there is no way one can blame Melania for having a special relationship with Ivanka, an especially hateful one, one with a hatred that exceeded that of all the other Trump kids.

There are not a lot of women (or men) who have to worry that their spouse is more physically attracted to their own child than to them. And yet, without a doubt, this would seem to be just one of Melania’s resentments toward Ivanka. We didn’t see a ton of Trump footage about Melania’s “hotness,” we had to cringe through all too much of Trump talk involving Ivanka.

Were that not enough, Ivanka absolutely took advantage of her father’s sick relationship with her to play the role of “wife” to the maximum extent possible, as much as she could get away with. Of course, Melania specializes in caring for Melania and was both aware and wary of Ivanka’s plans and ready at near every turn. During the initial months in the White House, Ivanka made it very clear that she believed the East Wing belonged to her at least as much as Melania.

(Some of that is Melania’s fault. It has been well-reported that Melania’s decision to stay in Manhattan those first few months involved an opportunity to really improve her pre-nup and she refused to move into the White House until the Obama bathrooms were entirely renovated, which has a “separate drinking fountain” feel to us.)

So it’s not surprising at all that our brothers, the Meidas brothers, would get the guts of the story from Stephanie Winston Wolkoffe, who found herself in the middle of the mutual hatred (Ivanka and Melania) in a brilliant portion of their podcast posted to Twitter. Steph describes a situation that wasn’t so much “dysfunctional” as it was disgusting, an ongoing competition as to who could slide the biggest knife into the other’s back.

Melania had legitimate reasons to be furious. But it is just almost impossible to not wonder if she also had legitimate reasons to be “jealous.” If there was a man on Earth capable…
