In a recent Fox News segment, tempers flared as Gerald Rivera confronted host Sean Hannity and fellow segment guest Dan Bongino about Trump’s role in inciting the January 6th Capitol insurrection. Rivera gave the scalding take that, “The obvious difference between the riot that happened on January 6 and the 500-odd that you correctly cite as concerning and damaging to America — to our psyche, to our physical wellbeing — is that this was a riot that was unleashed, incited and inspired by the president of the United States.”

During his time talking, Rivera was often interrupted by Hannity, who had several choice words about Trump only telling his followers to march peacefully on the Capitol, and how he believes that Trump ultimately ended up stopping the riots, although there has yet to be any evidence to actually back up such a claim.

Rivera also mentioned how several Fox News’ hosts had texted Trump that day asking him to put an end to what he had started, saying that, “I beg you, Sean, to remember the frame of mind you were in when you wrote that text on January 6 and when Laura [Ingraham] did and when Brian [Kilmeade] did and when [Donald Trump Jr.] did.”

Bongino’s replies to Rivera’s articulate and thoughtful points about the Capitol riots were far more “opinion” than anything Rivera had said, and his response to the other guest was that, “The backstabbing of the president you are engaging in is really disgusting and it’s really vile.” To this, Rivera responded that he is a supporter of Trump and always has been.
