Dr. Oz, a famous and extremely controversial medical talk show host, is running for a Senate seat (though there’s nothing new about a reality star wanting to become a politician), and a quote was recently recorded where he said that he did not want Oprah involved in the Pennsylvania race he will be a candidate in.

“I asked her to stay out,” Oz said, citing the reasoning that he believes anyone who gets intertwined in those politics could potentially get hurt. The quote was taken at a republican meet and greet at Smith & Wollensky steakhouse on December 16. The records of Oz’s statements come from The Post, who were invited to the event but then later kicked out.

The celebrity candidate is also supportive of soon to be mayor Eric Adams, who he said “understands law enforcement issues.” In a more surprising statement that diverges from traditional republican views, the doctor brought up record-breaking transgender athlete Lia Thomas, who studies at the University of Pennsylvania, and asked his fellow dinner guests to have “compassion” with her.

In another seemingly compassionate statement, Oz said about his friend Oprah’s potential involvement in his campaign: “Don’t support me because if you get involved in any way, you’ll get hurt and I don’t want my friends hurt.” The meeting was hosted by billionaires John and Margo Catsimatidis, and was attended by about 50 people, but whether they all agreed with Dr. Oz’s bolder statements is less certain.

Other notable guests at the event included Rudy Giuliani and Bo Dietl, a celebrity detective. Oz’s much-talked about friend Oprah was not in attendance herself. It would be interesting to hear Oprah’s side of the conversation as well, but she doesn’t make comments too often on such topics. Generally, Oprah considers herself a mostly unpolitical figurehead and has been for many years, so it seems unlikely she would get involved regardless.
