The United States State Department recommends that people not travel to El Salvador because of the high COVID rates due to a lack of vaccination and lack of regulations regarding COVID.

No one knows why, but  Republican Doug Ericksen, a Washington State representative went to El Salvador anyway. He must have felt fairly invulnerable to COVID. Now he has COVID and that is a problem because he is not allowed back into the United States. To make matters worse, he doesn’t have access to the “treatment” that the Right uses to overcome their vaccination political statement, monoclonal antibodies, the thousand dollar monoclonal antibodies used in place of a vaccine that costs us nothing and the government a few bucks.

The antibodies are not available in El Salvador. He has begged friends to Fed-Ex doses to the country.

Ericksen has opposed nearly every pandemic mitigation measure Governor Jay Inslee proposed (you know, to ensure Washington doesn’t become like El Salvador) and has even sponsored legislation to protect those who have not been vaccinated.

But again, here is his real problem. From Newsweek:

In an email to Washington House and Senate Republican lawmakers, Ericksen said he had tested positive shortly after arrival in the central American country and added, “I cannot get back home,” the Seattle Times reported.

Almost offensively comical, his spokesman said that he did not know whether Ericksen had been vaccinated against the disease. It would seem as though someone who has been vaccinated wouldn’t be begging his politically powerful buddies for monoclonal antibodies.

Regardless, this is yet another example of someone now regretting the decision to make a political statement and oppose all common sense regulations put in place to ensure that Washington and the United States don’t end up like El Salvadore.

It must be a real coincidence that a man who went nearly two years in Washington state, having to follow those “draconian” measures, without getting COVID, is now in a country without such measures, begging for COVID treatment that is so expensive it is not found in countries like El Salvadore.

Fitting, but we wish him well:
