The public is rightly outraged by Donald Trump’s recent comments regarding Mike Pence. Asked about what Trump thinks of the crowds chanting to take Mike Pence and string him up, Trump said it was “common sense.” Americans got another reminder about the fact that Trump is grossly ill.

But along with the shocking comment, Trump said something that entirely opens the door for the Select Committee to subpoena Trump personally (And with Steve Bannon’s indictment tonight, if Trump loses his executive privilege case, he faces jail if he resists the subpoena). Trump said he wasn’t concerned about Pence’s safety because he heard that Pence was safe.

Oh really?

Remember, Trump tweeted out that Pence failed them at approximately the same time that the crowds breached the Capitol. But Trump knew Pence was safe? Okay.

Who told Trump that Pence was safe? Did Trump make the call or was Trump called? If Trump called, why did he call? What else was discussed? What was Trump told? What did he do about it? Did Trump know that Pence refused to leave the Capitol in an SUV because he believed there to be a conspiracy theory among the Secret Service?

The House charged the Select Committee with getting to the bottom of what happened on January 6th. Trump just admitted that he knew what was happening in the Capitol during the time period. Even though one would expect a normal president to know, we had previously heard that Trump just sat watching television, loving what he saw. Now we know he spoke to someone, by Trump’s own admission.

Should Kamala Harris Run for President in 2028?

Trump’s comment just now compelled a subpoena. Trump admitted to knowing about Pence’s safety. Trump admitted to talking to someone about what was happening in the Capitol. Trump was in communication with someone who understood the security situation in the Capitol. Any investigation into the Capitol riot is now necessarily incomplete without Trump having to answer those questions.
