When former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie was diagnosed with COVID last year, he announced it to his Twitter followers the same day:

In consultation with my doctors, I checked myself into Morristown Medical Center this afternoon. While I am feeling good and only have mild symptoms, due to my history of asthma we decided this is an important precautionary measure.

That was just one day, October 3, 2020, after Donald Trump himself had tested positive for the virus. We now know from several reports that Trump was very ill with COVID, and declined quickly after arriving at Walter Reed Medical Center.

According to an interview that New York Times columnist Maggie Haberman had with Christie about his upcoming book Republican Rescue, Trump found the time and energy to call Christie while he was in the hospital.

While the rest of Christie’s friends and acquaintances were calling to wish him well, he writes in his book, Trump had a different reason for calling. Christie had just shared a stage with the ex-president during debate prep for the 2020 election, and before that, he had attended the Rose Garden event where Trump introduced his latest Supreme Court Justice, Amy Coney Barrett.

Both were diagnosed shortly after.

That led Trump — ever concerned with the health and well-being of his associates — to call Christie while he was in the hospital. He had only one thing in mind:

‘Are you gonna say you got it from me?’

Well, that’s typical Trump. Only caring about himself. Not a shred of guilt that he possibly got Christie, a loyal friend, sick. All Trump cared about was himself, and how it would look in the press if they knew Trump passed the virus to his friend, who was helping him prepare for the presidential debates with Joe Biden.

With friends like Trump, who needs enemies?
