Many of the Founding Fathers were agnostic at best, atheists would probably be more accurate.

Many of the people that came long before the Founders came to get away from a country that had one religion, the Church of England, and wanted a land in which to build their own religion, any religion.

When we are taught American Exceptionalism in school, and that is what we were taught. Ironically, we were taught that one of the things that actually made America exceptional was the right to worship however one wanted, or not worship. The Supreme Court has reaffirmed the principle many times.

But all that was before the MAGA movement, a movement built upon fear, a movement that is now well-beyond believing in those aspects of American exceptionalism.

One of the defining aspects of the MAGA cult is fear of becoming a minority in “their” own country. We are about to turn the corner where “white” people consist of less than 50% of the population and that terrifies the MAGAs to the point where it becomes “common sense” to want to go “extra-constitutional” (to say the least) in order to get what you want. Speaking of the Constitution, all people sworn into any government position are sworn to a duty to the Constitution, not the nation itself. There is a difference and it is for a reason. That same Constitution says there will be no official religion.

But none of that matters to Mike Flynn, who may or may not be involved with Russian elements attempting to turn the United States Government into the Russian government of the West. (Flynn was the one sitting beside Putin in a formal dinner in Moscow, things like that don’t happen by chance). The Russian government could enforce one religion if it pleased.

Regardless, something has certainly flipped in Flynn, where tonight he argued for one religion in the United States, a “Putin-like” demand if there ever was one.

No. Governments set up to enforce one religion have never ended well. MAGAs really are becoming the American Taliban.
