Jenna Ryan, the comfortably white, middle-class, racist protester from the January 6 insurrection at the US Capitol building who famously promised she would not be going to prison for her part in the events of that day has now been sentenced.
Apparently, no prison is looking more like two months in prison for the social media darling of the right. She was sentenced to 60 days and a $1,000 fine as Judge Christopher Cooper told her that she should have known better than to participate in something like that.
Telling her that she played a “lesser role in the criminal conduct that took place” than some others, Cooper added, “But that does not mean that you don’t have any culpability in what happened that day.”
We reported a few days ago that prosecutors were recommending prison time for Ryan, whose tweet was used against her for the very reason she posted it — she felt privileged enough to think she was above the law:
Definitely not going to jail. Sorry I have blonde hair white skin a great job a great future and I’m not going to jail. Sorry to rain on your hater parade. I did nothing wrong
— Jenna Ryan (@dotjenna) March 26, 2021
In her defense, Ryan wrote to the Court, saying:
I wasn’t saying I was above prison, I just felt that it would be unlikely since I was pleading to entering the Capitol for 2 minutes and 8 seconds. Now I realize that was a false notion, but having a false notion does not automatically mean I deserve incarceration. A tweet of me taking up for myself against a bully who is harassing me does not indicate that I feel above-the-law.
Of course, no one was harassing her or anyone who was in attendance that day. They were just mad that their guy didn’t win the 2020 election. That’s certainly no reason to try and overthrow the US government, even if she was “only” illegally in the building for just over two minutes.
