In an unexpected bombshell, ABC News is reporting that Mark Meadows, Donald Trump’s former chief of staff and the man who is suspicious of all things having to do with Italian satellites, will be speaking to the January 6th House Select Committee.

Now everyone’s attention should turn to Trump and whether Trump face plants on one of Mar-a-Lago’s marble floors. There is a chance that this is a stall tactic.

We will explain, as we set out the relevant information from ABC News:

Mark Meadows, who served as former President Donald Trump’s last chief of staff and was involved in efforts to challenge the 2020 election results, is now cooperating with the House select committee investigating the Jan. 6 Capitol attack.

Rep. Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., the chairman of the panel, said in a statement that Meadows has been “engaging” with the panel through his lawyer, providing records to the committee “and will soon appear for an initial deposition.”

All of that sounds perfect because if Trump committed a crime as president, using any portion of the government (as opposed to going completely outside the government with – for example, Roger Stone or Alex Jones) Mark Meadows would be in a better position to know than anyone else. Meadows was also the person who was on the receiving end of some of those phone calls from the “burner phones” as reported by Rolling Stone.

But here is where it gets tricky, because Meadow’s attorney may be doing nothing more than stalling.

“As we have from the beginning, we continue to work with the Select Committee and its staff to see if we can reach an accommodation that does not require Mr. Meadows to waive Executive Privilege or to forfeit the long-standing position that senior White House aides cannot be compelled to testify before Congress,” Meadows’ attorney George Terwilliger said in a statement Tuesday. “We appreciate the Select Committee’s openness to receiving voluntary responses on non-privileged topics.”

“Privileged.”

Meadows agrees to talk about non-privileged matters. It is now essential that A) the DC Circuit Court issue its opinion on the extent of executive privilege as it applies to documents subpoenaed because one could then presume that Meadows couldn’t claim executive privilege if simply asked about information contained within the documents.

We must also watch Trump. If Trump doesn’t go poo-flinging monkey insane, then it is likely a stalling tactic. But if Trump explodes, then we know that Meadows is on his own and trying to protect himself, and not so much the team anymore.

Regardless, this might be huge. Meadows was just a random member of Congress just two years ago, he doesn’t want to do a “Bannon” and put himself at risk with respect to criminal liability.
