Disclaimer. It is entirely possible that Trump is simply talking to be talking, to be a player, to be a man with a stake in the game, still, despite being thoroughly beaten by seven million votes. In his mind, he is still president or president-in-waiting, and he’s going to prove it in 2024.

By all appearances, Trump has made up his mind to run again in 2024, and by all appearances, Trump is crazier now than at any point in his life and this may never come to pass.

For now, though, Trump is almost already running in the 2024 presidential election. According to Business Insider:

During a phone conversation with Trump this summer, Conway, who was not formally on the 2020 campaign team, was decidedly blunt with the former president about where he went astray in his unsuccessful reelection bid, according to a new book by Washington Post journalists Bob Woodward and Robert Costa, an early copy of which was obtained by Insider.

The former president told Conway that he valued her advice and felt “nostalgic” regarding his 2016 campaign, when he was largely seen as a businessman and a political outsider. “That’s why you’re going to be in charge of everything, honey, the next time,” Trump reportedly said, alluding to a potential 2024 bid.

Yeah, good times. Again, one gets the sense that he’s mostly talking out of the lower part of his body. One can also sense some loneliness. Trump needs to be adored, by many, and the staff around Mar-a-Lago and his club in New Jersey just can’t give him what he got when he was in the White House. He is longing for the days when he was a winner… as opposed to now.

Kellyanne gave it to him straight:

“You were the underdog both times even though you were the president of the United States the second time,” she said. “But what you didn’t have this time was the hunger and the swagger. And you weren’t under-resourced and understaffed. If anything, Arlington became Brooklyn.”

Nice. She compared him and his campaign to Hillary’s. We have to give Kellyanne some credit here, she was one of the only people who never actually feared Trump. She was a disaster in interviews; “Bowling Greene… ” and “Alternative facts” and just so many lies that even Morning Joe refused to have her on the show.  But she was one of the few that wouldn’t let Trump push her around, which made for an interesting dynamic.

We are sure that Trump has decided he’s running in 2024. We are sure that he’s tapped Kellyanne to run the entire operation. We are also sure that what Trump believes right now has almost no bearing upon what he will think in 2023 and early 2024. As everyone knows, Trump can “say” whatever he wants. What he actually does or believes is another matter entirely.
