Vanity Fair is out with an explosive new report on the MAGA 2o24 presidential possibilities if Trump were to decide not to run. The expose follows an annual Republican gathering in Aspen, where the biggest of the big come to speak. All agreed that “even Senator Jesus H. Christ has no shot” if Trump were to decide if he was going to run again. But they also all agreed that Trump’s flair for the dramatic, and love of being the center of attention, will keep him from announcing whether he will run until just prior to the New Hampshire deadline.
(This all assumes that Trump is in a position to run, something we wish was not assumed. Our anger with Merrick Garland escalates by the day. Does Garland want to give Trump another shot at being the country’s first true dictator?)
The article gets into the dynamic behind the scenes, one of the weirdest possible scenarios. No one can appear to be running, and yet they’re all knifing each other right in the back, in case Trump doesn’t or cannot run – so they are, actually, running already. One of the most startling revelations is that the “obvious” heir apparent is actually not that obvious. Trump hates DeSantis:
DeSantis’s biggest challenge, though, will be navigating his fraught relationship with Trump. “Trump f*cking hates DeSantis. He just resents his popularity,” a second Trump confidant told me. (“Ron is a good guy,” Trump said.) According to a source, advisers for Pompeo have been promoting DeSantis in hopes of stoking Trump’s jealousy. “Pompeo’s people are building up DeSantis as the leader of the Republican Party to piss Trump off,” the source said.
Holy sh*t! Talk about eating their own. DeSantis is so popular because he imitates Trump so well and follows his example. But because that makes him popular, Trump hates him because he sucks up some popularity!
How typically Trumpian and this could only be a MAGA situation. We cannot think of a more deserving crowd.
