Perhaps there is hope. We’ll explain.
We do not have a Senate investigation into the January 6th riot because of the filibuster. We do not have a voting rights act because of the filibuster. And would won’t have an abortion law…
All of this is due to a little bit of Kristi Semina and a lot of Joe Manchin, who is also the main roadblock to Biden’s infrastructure bill, which only needs 50 votes. Joe has seemingly enjoyed his right to the center of the political circle in Washington. The second most powerful man in Washington, according to some. Perhaps something “bad” will shake him up enough to want to get his ample ass out of that center of attention role and fade into the background a bit.
His daughter is in real trouble. She might well have committed a crime in an effort to jack up the price of a company’s Epi-pen. She most certainly opened the door to even bigger class-action suits for anti-trust and fraudulent practices, all to gin up more money for big Phar and to the serious detriment of many families. There is a reason that the game “Monopoly” had a “go directly to jail” card. We aren’t saying she will be charged, but she’s now in real trouble.
According to the Intercept:
HEATHER BRESCH, the former president and CEO of the drugmaker Mylan, worked directly with the CEO of Pfizer to keep prices of the company’s EpiPen product artificially high, according to new documents released as part of an ongoing lawsuit.
The documents also show Bresch approving a scheme to force customers, captured by the company’s monopoly, to purchase two EpiPens at once, regardless of medical need. The EpiPen is an auto-injectable device that injects epinephrine into the body and can be the difference between life or death for a person suffering a severe allergic reaction.
Anti-trade practices like this is very serious stuff. Now watch how all this ties together here:
Manchin last week urged Democrats to take a “strategic pause” in consideration of the party’s $3.5 trillion reconciliation package, the centerpiece of the Biden agenda. A key component of the bill would lower drug prices by allowing Medicare to negotiate directly with pharmaceutical companies. That market power would save the government and patients billions over the next decade, but perhaps even more importantly, it would give the government greater insight into how pharmaceutical executives set prices. The change could reveal the type of collusion that keeps those rates high, exposing companies to risk of regulation or prosecution.
No, the above doesn’t require Manchin to bust the filibuster, it’s a reconciliation bill. The Democrats only need one 50 votes. But the pressure might force Machin to eat some humble pie and get his ass out of the middle of everything, for the betterment of his daughter… sick as it might be. She helped prey upon families that needed that drug. We need democracy in America. Joe Manchin can get the f*** out of the way.
