Some of the details from Stephanie Grisham’s new book “I’ll Take Your Questions Now” are truly disturbing on a number of levels. There seems to be harassment of women (no huge surprise, but this one apparently went a little further than normal), lying among the staff, some odd revelations about Putin and even Trump’s health, all of which will be covered elsewhere.
But who can resist hearing a great story about Ivanka and Jared’s attempt to assert themselves as American royalty, as the American royal family? It apparently happened when Trump and Melania first met with Queen Elizabeth. Everyone knows that a meeting with Queen Elizabeth Windsor, involves truly ridiculous levels of protocol, but the Clampetts… sorry, the Trumps, tried to pull off a breach that even normal Americans would find so humiliating as to be fatal. From the Washington Post’s overview:
Tellingly, Grisham writes that Ivanka and Jared tried to push their way into meeting Queen Elizabeth II alongside the president and first lady, a wild breach of protocol on a state visit, but were thwarted when they couldn’t fit into the helicopter. “I finally figured out what was going on,” Grisham writes. “Jared and Ivanka thought they were the royal family of the United States.”
Of course, they did!
Trump always thought he was a king, or absolute ruler on par with Putin, MBS, or Kim. Why wouldn’t his family not believe that they were, in some way, American royalty, with special graces bestowed upon Ivanka (the favorite child/princess) and her husband, the prince?
Additionally, the family never really seemed to grasp that the presidency was not a reality show. Surely, Ivanka and Jared thought it would make great television if they were seen at Trump’s side as American royalty. Sadly, it likely was nothing more than the amount of space in the helicopter that kept the breach from happening. After all, we have little doubt that Trump would have a problem with his “daughter wife” being alongside him while meeting the Queen.
