Brazil’s president Jair Bolsonaro is not some enlightened Scandinavian type social-democrat. He was referenced continually as “Brazil’s Trump,” and even completely mishandled COVID to be more like his hero. If one is stopped in Brazil for anti-democratic activities, especially if that someone is tied to Trump as a prominent former aide to a former president, particularly in Bolsonaro’s Brazil, one has really accomplished something. Jason Miller, the former prominent aide to Donald Trump, was stopped by Brazilian police and questioned about anti-democratic activities after attending a Brazil CPAC meeting.
“The Federal Police arrested the businessman and former right-hand man of former U.S. President Donald Trump, Jason Miller, early on Tuesday (7/9), at Brasilia International Airport,” according to a Google translation from the Metrópoles, in a column written by former CNN Brazil contributor Igor Gadelha.

Okay, “wanting to talk”? Yes, because that absolutely usually happens with people traveling internationally, especially people who were prominent aides to a president of the United States, without regard to who the president might have been. If there was ever a “type of American” that would get the benefit of the doubt in a situation such as this, it would be a guy like Jason Miller. Stopping a party and detaining them for questioning is actually something deeply concerning to our State Department and they would want answers (Because we have grown-ups running State right now and they don’t prejudice themselves as to “which” Americans.)
Brazil was willing to take a risk in questioning this party. This was not some “normal” type of situation as laid out by Miller. It also makes one concentrate on just how undemocratic the entire MAGA movement is in the United States, but that’s a given at this point. We wonder what he was doing in Brazil? Same as here? Maybe the United States ought to be detaining some Americans about criminal conspiracies that are undemocratic.
