Pure racism is bad enough. Racism based upon blame for COVID is both horrifying and dangerous. COVID is making plenty of people mentally ill and there’s already been violence.

It seems almost trite to also say that many Asian-American families trace their roots in America further back than a lot of white families. None of this matters to the people determined to be racist and place their anger and blame on people, rather than a virus and situations involving anyone bearing some actual responsibility.

Raw video from the incident, which occurred during a flight from Los Angeles to Salt Lake City, shows the man growling like an animal as he puts on a mask.

According to fellow passenger Dennis Busch, who filmed the meltdown, it began when the man “yelled at a woman of Asian ethnicity, telling her to sit down while she was standing up ‘to deal with a back issue,'” SLC’s Fox affiliate reported.

“He then told flight attendants that the woman and the person she was with ‘didn’t belong here,'” the station reported.

After the situation resolved itself, Busch noted that it was incredibly beneficial to have such a professional flight crew. That “crew,” of professionals, of course, includes the victim in all this.

We keep hearing about more and more of these. The blame cannot solely be put on the MAGA movement, but certainly, a lot of it can be. Trump sent a message to these people, this was the “China virus” and thus China was to blame, and because most Americans cannot tell the difference between Vietnamese, Chinese, Korean, and Japanese (It’s actually not hard at all if one has Asian friends) it puts every Asian at risk. We are in no way saying “Chinese” might be more deserving to hear anything, we’re only saying the pool of victims is even larger than Chinese Americans.

This is abhorrent.
