Next time you hear one argument from conservatives about Republicans favoring small government and more freedom, you need only remind them that it’s actually only about money and church politics.

If one doesn’t count one’s home, a business is the most private enterprise one can have. Yes, one needs licenses, city, state, etc. (But your home needs to meet zoning, etc., too). The police need a warrant to enter and search your business, just like a home, and the state cannot tell you how to run your business any more than your home.

Just like we would oppose a federal law requiring all Americans to get vaccinated, we’d support one allowing a homeowner to refuse entry to anyone not vaccinated. And so why can’t a private business not require its visitors to be vaccinated? Private businesses are allowed to discriminate so long as they do not violate the Civil Rights Act, (Race, gender, religion, etc.)

And yet Ron DeSantis has decided he is going to fine businesses $5,000 per day, per rejection. Sounds like milk money to Disney, but no, that’s “per instance.” From Rawstory:

Earlier this year, the Republican-led Florida Legislature passed a bill, SB 2006, banning businesses, governments and schools from requiring “vaccine passports” — essentially proof that people seeking their services have gotten a COVID-19 vaccine. In May, DeSantis signed that bill into law. The legislation allowed the state’s Department of Health to issue fines “not to exceed $5,000 per violation.”

What’s more, the rule states that businesses can be fined up to $5,000 for each violation, meaning that a concert venue that requires vaccination proof for 10,000 attendees could theoretically be on the hook for a $50 million fine.

Now imagine how Disney, with maybe 50,000 in a park on a Saturday feels about this law? OH, and it’s not like it’s warranted or a big deal or anything, after all:

Should Kamala Harris Run for President in 2028?

According to data compiled by the Financial Times, Florida is currently experiencing more than 21,000 new COVID-19 infections per day along with an average of 246 daily COVID-19 deaths.

Not all MAGA governors are created equal. Alabama’s governor Ivey is a Trumper through and through. She allows school districts to impose mask mandates and isn’t at all contemplating fines like this. But only one guy is definitely running for president in 2024, so long as the boss will let him. Ergo, fines. MAGA.
