Four days ago, this simpleton at this website wrote the obvious, hours after the first reports.

Men cannot hit women. Real men do not hit women, ever. Even after being hit.

It is that simple. Men don’t hit women. Here is another one that is every bit as simple. Men don’t joke about hitting women because under no circumstances is it funny. It is not funny in a backyard barbeque with everyone six beers into the festivities (except the driver). It is especially not funny among our country’s leaders, people who – however quaint – are supposed to set an example.

Men who do hit women need to face criminal charges because it’s a pattern that only escalates. Men who joke about it will do it again unless they immediately apologize for losing their damned minds and then start acting immediately like they care and want to rectify it. People are starting to notice that Kevin McCarthy has done… nothing:

In a statement, UltraViolet communications director Bridget Todd said that McCarthy’s “comments threatening violence against Speaker Pelosi are disgraceful, misogynistic, and wholly unacceptable. It should not be lost on anyone that Minority Leader McCarthy’s comments directly echo the violent online harassment, and real world violence manifested in the January 6th insurrection, that threatens the life of Speaker Nancy Pelosi on a regular basis.”

These statements have implications not just for the safety of Speaker Pelosi and other women in Congress, but also for all women in the form of policy. With Kevin McCarthy voting against the reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act, it is clear that his comments are reflective of his deeply held beliefs about how women should be treated and valued.

Prominent Democrats also condemned McCarthy’s remarks, as they should. If one jokes about it and says nothing, maybe someone who hears the “joke” about it thinks maybe it’s acceptable to put her in her place a bit.

Should Kamala Harris Run for President in 2028?

Maybe, maybe, if McCarthy immediately went into “Holy shit! That was awful of me to say! I can’t believe I said it. I have to call Nancy now. I have to meet with her soon. I need a public apology, I need to meet with women in Congress and listen to them,” and he seems sincere about it? Well then maybe Kevin redeems himself enough to just be censured.

Again, he’s done nothing. We will end with the wise words of former police officer Val Demmings:

Rep. Val Demings (D-Fla.) tweeted: “Kevin McCarthy thinks joking about hitting a woman is funny. When someone shows you who they are, believe them.”

Believe him? We most certainly do.
