There are a lot of us that always found it to be a bit more than a little telling that Trump used to get along much better with ruthless dictators than the people who were supposed to be this country’s friends. Trump never crossed MBS, but would get chilly with Justin Trudeau, whom the rest of the world finds to be one of the most competent and nicest guys out there.

But there was no relationship like the one Trump had with Kim Jung-Un, this is the same relationship that went from who had a bigger button to falling in love, to an American president actually stepping over the line into North Korea (rather than the other way around), even offers to ride on Air Force One home from Vietnam. Trump did seem to love Kim Jung-Un, a man so ruthless he had his half-brother taken out in Singapore’s airport with a nasty poison.

But Trump’s most unforgivable sin was elevating Kim Jung-Un on the world stage. The North Koreans so tightly control the internet and communications into their country that their citizens actually believe that North Korea is an equal power to the United States and that their country is wealthy compared to many others. For this very reason, the United States never sent anyone to meet with the North Korean dictator (no matter who it might’ve been) whom the North Koreans would’ve heard of. It was always a special diplomat of some obscure type.

Trump gave Kim Jung Un a gold brick in the form of “legitimate propaganda.” The North Koreans now had video proof that the United States looked at North Korea as a fearsome power, so fearsome that the U.S. President stepped over the North Korean line to go meet with Kim Jung-Un. But worst of all, and perhaps it escaped Trump’s notice, but for all this goodwill, the only result is that the North Koreans are that much ahead of where they were when Trump came into office. Trump bragged that we were on the edge of war when he came into office. Yes, we were. But that was premised upon the U.S. not allowing North Korea to develop nuclear weapons. The moment Trump signaled that the issue didn’t mean a lot to him, the North Koreans decided they could be great friends with us

Last night, Trump spent over a crazed minute bragging about talking to Jong-Un in yet another example of just how demented and unhinged the man can be. Also, there’s a part of this brag where Trump says that Biden told him North Korea was the nation’s biggest concern. He’s actually referring a conversation back in 2016 he claims he had with President Obama, not Biden. Trump is obviously sundowning.
