“At least Clarissa Ward didn’t run off to Cancun when things got tough.”
It is likely that everyone has at one point in their lives considered the danger that American reporters face while working overseas, assigned to lawless areas where it might be considered a prize to capture a well-known American, like a CNN reporter. Yes, CNN likely purchases some sort of security apparatus to surround them (We sure hope that they do), but there is no conceivable way it is more than one or two people. In other words, not enough for a tough group intent upon grabbing their “prize.”
Clarissa Ward is about as high as it gets when it comes to American “prizes” awaiting capture by a group that might like someone to “trade” down the road. There might have been a point in time when claiming American citizenship protected our citizens abroad, fear of retaliation was and still is real. But the days of assured safety have long since passed.
It must be scary as hell and those of us here, who comment on the news, acknowledge that they are on another level and a level above that. So why is it so hard for Ted Cruz to understand that a reporter in a war zone would want to do everything possible to “blend in” and not offend the new “authority” that might find a CNN reporter useful:
Is there an enemy of America for whom @CNN WON’T cheerlead?
(In mandatory burkas, no less.) https://t.co/9O6pe8yROM

That takes a lot of bullsh*t and a lot of brass for Ted to talk about CNN cheerleading the Taliban or anti-American forces. And then to point out the burka. Let’s see Ted go over there in his suit and tie, without American military protection. Ted’s tweet didn’t go over well at all:
CNN had their reporter’s back:
Rather than running off to Cancun in tough times, @clarissaward is risking her life to tell the world what's happening. That’s called bravery. Instead of RTing a conspiracy theorist’s misleading soundbite, perhaps your time would be better spent helping Americans in harm’s way.

Let's unite around what we can agree on: hatred of Ted Cruz.

Clarissa Ward: Literally risks her life to report from the ground of an extremely dangerous and chaotic situation.
Ted Cruz: Hightails it to Cancun after his house loses power for a couple days. https://t.co/OvWhs3FHsw

Excuse me—I would like to report a murder. @CNNPR just demolished @tedcruz. pic.twitter.com/F0JTMxzeMm

To state the obvious: @clarissaward > @tedcruz.

U, @tedcruz wish u were as brave as @clarissaward🤨
U already demonstrated what an abject COWARD you are in the face of a political rival buffoon who insulted your family. Instead of standing up, u kissed his ass & exposed urself as a sniveling coward. https://t.co/zdIsUPpR8o https://t.co/DxTPrAJkhY

Yeah, that didn’t go well.
