There are underlying difficulties in reporting a column on this issue because it involves, at its very root, a mother grieving the loss of her son. Shana Chappell’s son served in the U.S. Military and was lost due to the ISIS-K bomb blast that took the lives of thirteen U.S. service personnel.

But just up from the roots of this story is a MAGA mother who doesn’t believe that Joe Biden is president of the United States and blames Biden for her son’s death. We can forgive her for being rude, indeed, as a grieving parent one has to almost forgive everything in her statement:

Again, one just doesn’t want to be too critical of a grieving parent, but we doubt there was any grief behind the words “if my president Trump was in his rightful seat…” and “You are not the president of the United States.” That is not pain speaking, that’s pure MAGA and would’ve been spoken even prior to the lose of her son.

This nation is falling apart. Trump has made it such that 35% of this country doesn’t even recognize the real president. But as bad as Shana Chappell might have been, she is – at least – a grieving mother who sacrificed a son to this nation, and would have a difficult time controlling herself anyway.

But Liz Harrington, Trump’s spokesperson, has no excuse whatsoever. Not only has she not lost a son, she is supposed to be a professional. Instead, she sounds like nothing more than a professional MAGA. As Trump’s personal spokesperson, she picked up the statement and retweeted it! Yes, slow down momentarily and breathe this in. Trump’s spokesperson used the words of a grieving mother for political purposes, something far more “vile” and “callous” than anything Biden ever could do.

There are no words for what just happened there. Ms. Chappell will need years to gather herself (though her opinion about Trump was formed years prior). The fact that Trump’s spokesperson would use that grieving mother’s grotesque statement for their own grotesque purposes is…

We will just leave it there. Shame on Liz Harrington, a vile person.
