Greg Abbott, like many of the loudest MAGAs on masks and freedom of choice, had gotten himself vaccinated, just as one might expect from a highly functioning adult who is merely pandering to a crazed base. It is a good thing that he got vaccinated because today Abbot tested positive for COVID.
If Abbot was vaccinated with the Pfizer vaccine, it is possible that he’s experiencing one of the break through delta variant cases that many of us experienced. Abbott might be sick for a while, but he won’t likely need to go to the hospital and has an almost 0% chance of dying. So far he is asymptomatic, but that’s not stopping him from going full Trump anti-body treatment.
Now people are speculating as to whether Abbott is learning the value of mask mandates now that he’s been sickened with the disease. Erin Burnett of CNN interviewed FDA adviser Dr. Paul Offit weighed in on Gov. Greg Abbott (R-TX) testing positive for COVID-19.
“I wish Governor Abbott a speedy recovery, but I’m sure he’s learning now masks are a lot cheaper than Regeneron. Why tie the hands of the public health officials behind their back? You have two weapons, one is vaccines and one is masking, and for children under 12 that’s the only weapon they have. It seriously weakens his argument.”
“It’s amazing. Regeneron is $1500 per dose. He’s getting it. Ron DeSantis pushed that as a solution. I guess they think other state taxpayers will pay for it. It’s incredible.”
That is stunningly unbelievable. Abbott is taking the “Trump treatment” even though he doesn’t have any symptoms, and – again, yes, it is $1500 per dose and we’re reasonably certain that Abbott is not paying it. It would seem that wearing a mask is considerably cheaper. But the MAGAs have never been particularly smart about COVID.
