We reported yesterday on Trump’s statement regarding meeting Ashli Babbitt’s “wonderful” parents and said in our headline that it was the most chilling and dark statement he’s made in months.

We received a little pushback about hyperbole, but it appears that Nancy Pelosi agrees with us to an even greater degree. Pelosi is calling out McCarthy for supporting Donald Trump and his acolytes, who are now saying the police were on the wrong side. Moreover, Trump (and congressmen previously) made veiled threats against the officer who shot Babbitt.

As inexplicable, and – as Pelosi says, “despicable,” as it may seem, somehow the Capitol Police have become “the bad guys” in the January 6th riot. This type of whitewashing, the kind that is this intense, sophisticated, and organized (that we think goes well beyond Trump’s abilities, make of that what you will) is working to “rebrand” January 6th to the MAGA’s advantage.

In the days after January 6th, shell-shocked McConnell and McCarthy both blamed Trump, both were furious with the rioters. Now, we have to beg the Republicans to back up those people that tried to keep McCarthy safe even as he was calling Trump in a fury that day.

Seventy-Five Percent of the MAGA movement sees it as a “fact” that the election was stolen. Now that January 6th is being whitewashed, more and more, the MAGA movers are shifting the rioters over from criminals to “freedom fighters” (as we predicted a month ago), to the point that the police were bad for fighting back against the freedom fighters.

As cynical as one can be, it’s never enough with these people. On January 7th, we all sighed a collective breath, it would be over, finished, Trump and the MAGAs would never survive this.

But here we are, Pelosi begging McCarthy to simply stop his people from standing strongly against the police and putting them in danger? We said, “most chilling,” and “darkest.”
