There are certain things where it’s just fine if a politician refuses to take sides, “Catholic v. Protestant,” or “Steelers v. Eagles,” or “Salmon or Halibut” (If the Salmon is wild Copper River sockeye salmon from Alaska, there is only one correct answer to that question, in any other situation there are two).
There are, however, things on which there should be no “sides.” For instance, is one on the side of the Coronavirus or on the side of humanity? We suppose there are two sides, but for a person, there’s one choice. Additionally, and along the same line, there is “Are you on the side of getting vaccinated from COVID, which will keep you from getting sick or at least keep you out of the hospital and off a ventilator, or are you on the side of getting sick with COVID and continuing to drag this country down economically, while losing mothers, fathers, and grandparents of the truly innocent people? The children.
(*Personal example. In February, I got vaccinated and by mid-March was “fully protected.” My 13 year old daughter was fully protected by Mid-May. Then the delta variant came along and the southeast hotspot developed and this single dad of a 13 year old girl got sick – even though he was vaccinated – from delta COVID. I got quite sick, though never having to go to the hospital. Now imagine if I was some MAGA-Trump type, who thought it’s a bad cold “scamdemic” to get the libs elected. Imagine if I thought Fauci is a liar and the vaccine is dangerous because it’s new. And I’m a perfectly healthy 50-year-old man, so what do I have to fear? As sick as I got – real sick – even with the vaccination, almost surely means that my daughter may have lived the rest of her life without a dad to help with homework, no one to cry to when a boyfriend breaks up with her, no one to help visit colleges, and no one to walk her down the aisle. All of that, due to decisions made when she was too young to understand. There ARE innocent victims).
Congressman Glenn Grothman (R-WI), is almost surely on the Packers side of anything, but cut off an interview after saying “I don’t like to get into taking sides” on vaccinations.” We should talk sometime.
According to Mediaite: Grothman was asked by local ABC affiliate WKOW TV, “What do you tell anybody out there who is currently not vaccinated?”
The congressman replied, “Well, I don’t have a message. I think the message on the internet, you can find all sorts of people saying different things. I would talk to people in the medical field, not only doctors, but nurses as well, and see what their opinions are.”
In response to a question of whether the vaccine is safe, Grothman said, “Well, I think there’s unquestionably, particularly older people, benefits to the vaccine, but I am not going to play doctor to everybody in Dane County tonight. So, you know, we voted for the vaccine, we put billions of dollars into it, and we certainly turned it around quicker than anybody thought.”
Grothman was then asked if he’s vaccinated to which he replied, “I don’t like to get into taking sides on it.” He then walked off camera.
We are of the opinion that anyone who doesn’t say whether they’re vaccinated or not, is not vaccinated. They say they don’t want to reveal it because they don’t want to spend fifteen minutes justifying it.
No one is expecting him to “play doctor” to everybody in Dane County. The only “expectation” is that Grothman show the same level of responsibility you would want from your babysitter. There are not “two sides” to the vaccine! There is the correct thing to do and there is the very very incorrect thing to do. Those are not “sides.”
