The United States continues to go about its business as if this weird GOP-NRA-Russia-Trump-MAGA axis doesn’t exist and that things are actually quite normal. Trump is just a bit of a weird, but normal, politician. Right? And the GOP is just going through some growing pains with some unruly voters who are mad because their guy didn’t win and in the United States, each party has a right to two terms as president. So a protest went bad.
Wrong. Something is very wrong. We pretend that the NRA wasn’t getting tens of millions of dollars from Russia to shovel directly into Republican campaigns. We pretend that the Russian meddling into the 2016 election couldn’t possibly have been the difference maker and thrown the close election to Trump. We pretend that this country isn’t on the verge of a dictatorship.
Hey, Penn State plays Wisconsin this weekend! We all have too much to do, the kids have swim lessons, we have 35 yard line seats to our alma mater, p*rn, money, who the hell cares what happens in Washington, it’s all the same.
No, it’s not. Our country could be taken over, slowly, piece by piece. Speaking of Wisconsin, and being taken over, let’s talk about Senator Ron Johnson. The most MAGA Senator is, completely unrelated we are sure, the most Russian friendly Senator, the guy who thought January 6th wasn’t that bad is this guy, from RollCall in 2018:
One of the Republican senators back from a trip to Moscow is suggesting that Congress went too far in punishing Russia for meddling in the 2016 U.S. presidential election.
*HAS ANYONE WONDERED WHY NO DEMOCRATS WERE INVITED?
“I’ve been pretty upfront that the election interference — as serious as that was, and unacceptable — is not the greatest threat to our democracy,” Sen. Ron Johnson said in an interview with the Washington Examiner published over the weekend. “We’ve blown it way out of proportion.”
“We need to really honestly assess what actually happened, what effect did it have, and what effect are our sanctions actually having, positively and negatively,” the Republican from Wisconsin said.
WOW! What a turn of events, huh? After a trip to Moscow? Who knows what happened there? Video of one night with an 18-year-old and a threat to mail the video to his wife and the Madison television stations? A paper bag full of cash? (And then he’s caught forever), or whisper some secrets they already know about him and voila. “It’s not the greatest threat to our democracy,” and sanctions may actually be negative.
Alabama is playing Miami Saturday night.
We all pretend as if this isn’t right in front of our faces! Ron Johnson just happened to go to Moscow, just happened to come home singing a different tune, just happened to jump on the MAGA wagon, just happens to be the biggest proponent of the Big Lie, just happens to be the guy whitewashing all of it, the NRA just happens to go bankrupt after it’s caught taking tens of millions from Russia, and Trump never once crossed Russia, not once. It happens, it’s all normal. Rand Paul went, too, so did many others.
But here is the real Ron Johnson, caught off guard, caught speaking candidly, caught telling the truth. He is caught knowing that he’s doing someone else’s business:

Have you seen that “Only Fans” website with the women who…
Nothing about this is normal. People just don’t care and we will go down as the first two American generations that gave our next two generations a country that is poorer and far less democratic (if at all) than we found it. Boebert is talking today about Biden losing to Afghanistan. We should be talking about the U.S. losing to Russia, as we watch state after state clampdown on voting. None of this is by accident, none of this is happening in a vacuum, and if you gave Ron Johnson some truth serum, we might hear some shocking stuff.
