We’re sorry to say it this plainly, but we, as a country, are fkt.
Liberty University, evangelical as it is, is still supposed to be an institution of higher learning where, at least at times, education and thought wins out over political idiocy. And yet, their “counsel” (which we presume to mean their institution’s attorney on general matters), Mat Staver is not satisfied by saying the vaccine doesn’t work. He is not satisfied by saying it has bad side effects. He is not satisfied by saying… never mind, he’s calling the vaccine itself, and – presumably the distribution and injection, a crime against humanity.
We are also presuming that this means that the man for whom he voted for as president spent most of the last year of his presidency plotting the preparation of a vial of poison for liberals? While Trump’s voters just continued to die of COVID? And this is not Staver’s first go-round on the old “vaccine-bad” thing.
In a July 30 blog post, Staver compared vaccine requirements with the inhumane medical experiments carried out by Nazi doctors on concentration camp prisoners. A Staver email the next day claimed, “The shots are maiming, paralyzing and killing people, but Biden continues his mad quest to inject every American.” Staver returned to the Nazi comparison a few days later in an appearance on David Brody’s “The Water Cooler” television show on the right-wing Real America’s Voice network, where he warned, “We’re repeating the dark history of Nazi Germany.”
Interesting. There is absolutely no science to back this up, but we suppose they save money at Liberty University by having the science department overlap with the religious studies department. We kid, when we shouldn’t.
Staver portrays the federal vaccine strategy as a conspiracy to impose tyranny. In a July 29 appearance on right-wing broadcaster Steve Deace’s radio show—promoted with the title, “What can you do to push back against Covidstan?”—Staver claimed that “they” were using the pandemic to “take our freedom away…”
But he is probably just fine with what happened on January 6th. This man is of a certain age (from the picture we’ve seen) who almost surely was in danger of getting polio, a terrifying disease that took the lives of many kids and left some permanently physically challenged. Then a vaccine was developed. Ask a kid today “what is polio” and they’ll say something about a horse and stick those rich people play.
Then again, vaccines weren’t political back in his youth.
