None of this will make any sense without a quick review of the context. Yesterday, Joe Biden had had it with Florida and Ron DeSantis (Along with Texas Gov. Greg Abbott), noting that one-third of the new cases in the United States are coming from those two states with the laxest mask rules and other COVID precautions.

Biden said that with one-third of the new cases coming from those two states it was time to lead, follow, or get out of the way. DeSantis had the perfect Trumpian response, something wholly unrelated and hot topic (Paraphrased); I don’t want to hear blip from Biden until he solves the situation at the border.”

Obviously, DeSantis used the opportunity to make cheap political points that all these new cases are coming from legal immigrants, even though his state is surrounded by water on three sides and non-border stated on the north. (Additionally, immigrants are not bringing the delta variant here) The delta variant came from the U.K. so unless So unless DeSantis wants to have it out with customs at MIA he’s 100% wrong, again.

That’s the context.

Today, Jen Psaki got asked about DeSantis calling Biden a power-hungry tyrant (which we must have missed that particular comment but it fits the overall mood).

Psaki then gave her finest answer from the podium, people are dying, people are sick (even vaccinated people are sick with the new COVID variant). Psaki was asked about DeSantis’s remark. She didn’t have time to name call, she wanted to save lives.

“25% of hospitalizations in the country are in Florida. It is also a fact that the governor has taken steps that are counter to public health recommendations.

“So, we’re here to state the facts. Frankly, our view is that this is too serious, deadly serious to be doing partisan name calling. That’s what we’re not doing here, we’re focused on providing public health data information to the people of Florida, to make sure they understand what steps they should be taking, even if those are not steps taken at the top of the leadership in that state.”

“This is too serious—deadly serious—to be doing partisan name-calling.”
