This is so far beyond ridiculous that it’s getting sickening and it is 100% political. Had Trump not stood at that damn podium and said, “Try it, what do you have to lose” none of these people would’ve ever heard of ivermectin. Ivermectin is a medicine that treats worms in horses and cows, its main ingredient is hydroxychloroquine – perhaps you’ve heard of it?

There has been a total of one study, that had yet to be refereed and peer-reviewed that showed hydroxychloroquine helped some patients that were on ventilators in the ICU, in other words, on the edge of death. There have been other studies that have shown the medicine to be more dangerous than not taking it.

And yet, because of the political angle, we end up with this:

Washington County Sheriff Tim Helder on Tuesday confirmed that the medical provider for the Detention Center has been prescribing ivermectin to detainees to treat them for the covid-19 virus. The question was raised at a meeting of the Quorum Court’s Finance & Budget Committee during a discussion of the proposed 2022 budget for the Detention Center. Helder said he was informed of the use of the medication in July by emails from Karas Correctional Health.

The FDA has warned against using ivermectin in treating covid-19. In an Aug 21 post on Twitter, addressing the use of ivermectin, the agency said: “You are not a horse. You are not a cow. Seriously, y’all. Stop it.” Ivermectin tablets are approved at very specific doses for some parasitic worms, and there are topical formulations for head lice and skin conditions like rosacea. Ivermectin is not an anti-viral.

There are precious few “anti-virals.” If the medical field had anti-viral medications, infections like COVID would be treated more like strep throat. We do have antibiotics. The best science can do for now is slow viruses down or… take a vaccine that acts like a brick wall between a patient and death.

This is appalling.

The best thing that a jail could do is to near mandate the vaccine upfront. Anyone going to jail has already lost a lot of freedoms. If state universities can mandate the vaccine (and it appears that they can), surely a county jail can do so also. If they can treat patients with a horse dewormer, it would seem as though they can do mandatory vaccinations.
