Rightly or wrongly, this stuff matters. We say rightly.
Yes, as far as three years ahead of serious campaign season for 2024, a potential candidate can blow their entire chance at the nomination. In this case, Ron DeSantis might pay for misreading the MAGA mood, entirely. Sure, his idiotic and draconian moves have pleased the bottom 25% of the political right, but that bottom 25% doesn’t elect anyone. Meanwhile, according to Quinnipiac, he’s hitting bottom with everyone else.
According to Rawstory:
New polling from Quinnipiac shows that Florida residents are broadly in favor of taking precautions to prevent the spread of COVID-19, including the mask mandates that DeSantis has tried banning in public schools.
Overall, 60 percent of Florida voters support school mask mandates, while just 36 percent are opposed.
DeSantis’s policy of cutting off salaries of school leaders who defy his mask mandate ban, meanwhile, is even more politically toxic for the governor, as just 25 percent say the policy is a good idea while 69 percent say it’s a bad idea.
Florida is a red state. (They elected DeSantis, a person whose IQ usually mirrors the temperature of Jacksonville), and to have only 25% say you’ve got a good policy going on the most important issue in the state? Those types of numbers can ruin a career in months, as they should when proving oneself incapable in such a short period of time. If your own state won’t support you in a presidential run, it’s awfully tough to get anyone else’s.
Like we said, this is the type of thing that can ruin the heir apparent in 90-120 days, and rightly so. It is very much worth keeping an eye upon. Who is number three? Josh Hawley? Ted Cruz? It doesn’t get the slightest bit more comforting, does it?
