For those who have never seen white privilege in action, we have now all witnessed the requests to get out of pretrial restrictions based entirely upon white privilege. Exactly none of the below would be granted to a 20-year-old black man, even though, if justice was truly blind, and the scales equally weighted, the same requests would be granted to each defendant, if any were granted at all. Clearly, though, defendants of the Capitol Hill riot, believe that they are entitled to some special rights.
As everyone knows, judges put restrictions upon people to ensure that they show up for their trial. Travel restrictions, then, become incredibly important. `If one is asking to travel, it better be to one’s daughter’s wedding or something equally important (a funeral would be an obvious reason). But if a 20-year-old black man, accused of anything challenging the government’s authority (at varying levels, every rioter is charged with some form of revolt against the government) no attorney would allow their client to request a release to go on vacation because that sort of presumptuousness is just going to upset the judge, as if asking for another shot at disrespecting the government’s authority.
And yet, this list is compiled by the irreplaceable Scott MacFarlane:
Jan 6 defendant travel plans (Growing list of formal travel requests to judges)
Oregon family wedding (x2)
Classic car show in Arkansas
Beach vacation in Alabama
Sept "family holiday" trip to Alabama
Family outing to Carolinas
Cancun business trip
Mexican vacation— Scott MacFarlane (@MacFarlaneNews) August 19, 2021
For those of us who live within a few miles of Alabama’s gorgeous, perfect beaches (they are), it is very easy to understand why people would want their vacation, and we’re sure that a “Cancun Business Trip” is equally important. But again, our point is that no 20-year-old black man would ask for such things because justice is not blind, it never has been, and those requests would certainly upset a judge.
If anyone ever doubted that white privilege exists (and only some white people would), reading through that list which is just limited to travel, not even other things like “back pain,” and “depression,” should provide rock-solid proof.
