As this column is being written, President Joe Biden is having a televised conference call among all forces involved in directing the rescue of victims and aid to Louisiana. He is doing it live, demanding coordination of all forces.

President Joe Biden decided to get out of Afghanistan. The first few days were awful, with the Taliban retaking the country almost immediately, and with many Americans still stranded. Since that time, we have seen a tragic bomb set off by ISIS, not the Taliban. ISIS is the organization to whom Trump surrendered in Northern Iraq. Meanwhile, President Biden and the U.S. military used drone strike against a vehicle loaded with explosives which likely saved dozens of lives. The United States has now safely evacuated over 100,000 Afghan refugees, and nearly every American who wants to leave Afghanistan, an amazing success.

The Delta COVID variant is ravaging those parts of the country where people are least likely to be vaccinated. Fascinatingly, these areas overlap almost entirely with Trump voters. As a statistical matter, the number of people who have been vaccinated and who later required hospital treatment due to COVID is zero. Biden more than doubled his goal of 100 million shots in 100 days. One can walk into Walgreens right now, fill out a form, get vaccinated, and be gone in 20 minutes.

Hardly disasters, at least in comparison. And yet:
