If doctors are going to start rationing care to obese people we have the perfect candidate in mind.
Of course, that’s not going to happen and Ben Shapiro’s comment today regarding rationing care is as irresponsible as Shapiro’s usual comments, it’s just that normally it’s not this noticeable and offensive.
First, the backstory:
Nearly every hospital from Texas to Florida is so busy caring for COVID patients that they’re literally out in parking lots, putting off anything that can be considered an elective treatment, and asking nurses to work seven days a week at triple pay – and it’s not worth it because they’re so exhausted that it will take a year to recover. Quite obviously, at this point, in August of 2021, all of it, or all but 5% of it, was entirely preventable. Some of us had pretty strong cases of breakthrough COVID (Pfizer isn’t as good as keeping Delta entirely out) but because we’d been vaccinated with something, we were never in danger of needing the hospital because we weren’t once short of breath.
This is the nearly uniform experience of everyone who has had the disease “while vaccinated.”
But all too many – especially in the deep south and other red states are not vaccinated and it’s due to one movement alone, the one that booed Trump on Saturday, the one that went to a fcking rally on Saturday! These same people are not aware of the fact that the Delta variant is almost an entirely new virus, far more contagious, far less discerning in the age of those afflicted, and taking the lives of people far younger. Even those that live often stay in the ICU for three weeks. And therein lies the problem.
They are breaking our healthcare system. Needlessly. Due entirely to their fat-headed decision.
Thus it was that 75 doctors walked out in protest this morning in Florida. No, they didn’t “walk away” and leave patients’ care, but they did a symbolic walkout; “We are tired of caring for people that could’ve easily prevented this.”
Ben Shapiro embarrassed his ass by comparing apples to owls this morning:
If this is the new standard — that failure to take measures to alleviate your own health problems are punishable by doctors refusing treatment — the extension of this logic to obesity will certainly be something https://t.co/QBzLZyrOan

Obesity has exactly nothing in common with not getting vaccinated. Getting vaccinated is free, takes an hour altogether at most, and is practically a cure to a virus that is taking all too many lives right now and risking other people’s lives by filling hospitals. Do not get into a car accident right now.
But even more importantly, obesity is often as genetic as anything. There are some unfortunate people who can eat healthier food than you, exercise more than me, and still be overweight. Moreover, in any situation, obesity is a problem that usually builds up over a lifetime and cannot be stopped with two shots (But the first doctor who can treat it with two shots will have ten times the amount of money as Bezos). Obesity is something everyone addresses with their doctor, not their uncle on Facebook. People don’t get their obesity advice from Sean Hannity, and they definitely don’t from KFC Gravy Donnie.
Shapiro deserves today’s strongest STFU award. Not unusual.
