The details about the inner workings of the Trump White House, especially in the last six months of his term, continue to come out and shock the public. Michael Bender, Wall Street Journal reporter and author of the new book “Frankly, We Did Win the Election,” discussed the chaos around the White House and the situation when Trump got COVID. He dropped yet another bomb on “The Interview” podcast.
From Mediaite in a summary of the podcast:
In this week’s The Interview podcast, senior White House reporter for the Wall Street Journal Michael Bender says that not only was it worse than we knew, it’s worse than we know today.
So, to this day, we still don’t know how bad it got, only that it was far more severe than we believed, even upon hearing the details coming out after the term, and they are still hiding more information as to the severity. They are doing this despite the fact that MAGAs around the country refuse to get the shot because they don’t see the disease as a threat, but do see the vaccine as a threat.
But when Trump got it, he believed he was going to die:
Asked by Mediaite editor-in-chief Aidan McLaughlin whether he had reporting on how bad it got and whether Trump or people in the White House feared the president was going to die, Bender said “yes, yes, all of the above.”
We still don’t know how bad it was, we only know it was still worse than we know today, and Trump thought he was going to die, so did the people around him.
“It was worse than we know … and I’m sure it’s worse than what even I have in this book,” said Bender. That book, Frankly, We Did Win This Election: The Inside Story of How Trump Lost, has many startling and revealing looks behind the curtain, but the fact that the White House was worried the president would die is easily among the more historically intriguing.
It is more than historically intriguing, it is likely still responsible for deaths occurring even today. Had Trump come out of the hospital saying, please wear a mask and social distance, this disease is so serious that I thought I was going to die.” It is likely that the MAGAs would have complied.
If he came out even today and said, “I am disappointed that people are not getting vaccinated. I did, even after having the disease. The disease is so bad that I thought I was going to die. Please get the vaccine,” it would save hundreds to thousands of lives.
Trump is just not wired that way. He had mocked people who got sick, seeing it as a sign of weakness. He likely still sees it as a sign of weakness in him and he simply won’t discuss it.
Tragic and infuriating.
