Former President Donald Trump’s relationship with NFL quarterback Tom Brady may have reached a hitch as he brought some jokes to the White House on Tuesday, while Vice President Joe Biden lauded Brady.
The NFL player claimed that 40% of the population did not believe the Tampa Bay Buccaneers won the Super Bowl, alluding to GOP denialism after Biden won the electoral and popular vote in November 2020.
Brady appeared to be a Trump supporter when he was in office, but it’s unclear who he voted for.
According to TMZ, he also skipped a visit to Barack Obama’s White House in 2015, as well as a visit to Donald Trump’s White House in 2017. Despite this, Brady made a few shots at Trump, with whom he has a long acquaintance.
Brady also joked that people had started calling him “Sleepy Tom,” a nod to former President Trump’s campaign moniker for Joe Biden, and other things.
On Tuesday, Biden hosted a celebration on the South Lawn for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to commemorate their Super Bowl LV triumph in February. Brady’s visit to the White House was his first in in a decade.
Watch:
Brady: Not a lot of people think we could’ve won. In fact, I think about 40% of the people still don’t think we won
Biden: I understand that pic.twitter.com/0yNlu3d3Cn— Acyn (@Acyn) July 20, 2021
President Biden took a photo with the squad, and Brady gave him a Tampa Bay jersey with the number 46 and the name Biden embroidered on the back, which Trump’s narcissistic mindset is unlikely to like. According to The Hill, President Joe made brief words to congratulate the team on their victory, saying that they brought joy to Americans during a “dark winter” caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
“In the middle of a long dark winter every Sunday, people were able to sit down and watch you play,” Biden said.
Tom Brady, the final speaker and a seven-time Super Bowl winner, snagged the headlines with a pair of political jokes that appeared to be jabs at former President Donald J. Trump, with whom Brady has shared a long friendship. https://t.co/T6eWZYXPC9
