This makes almost no sense unless one really understands the Trump family… which is near impossible.

Trump’s sons have been on television for the last 12 hours wailing and gnashing their teeth over the fact that the Manhattan District Attorney’s office filed criminal charges against Trump Organization CFO Allen Weisselberg and the Trump Organization itself. The charges could easily be the death knell of the company because a corporation charged with a felony will have a near-impossible time getting further loans and even licenses, e.g. liquor licenses (which we’ve already covered). It could all come crashing down.

There is also the fact that the entire criminal investigation and resulting charges are likely about getting leverage over various people (especially Weisselberg) to testify against Trump. And yet, Trump originally saw this as his ultimate political victory: Per Mediaite:

The former president was on a conference call with his advisers Monday discussing his favorite topic — revenge — when he was interrupted with an update on the Manhattan D.A.’s investigation. He would not be personally indicted, Trump was told — only Weisselberg and the Trump Organization would be. Trump was thrilled by what he saw as light charges, and according to one of the advisers on the call, his mind raced to 2024.

“Just wait until 2024, you’ll see,” Trump said. The former president implied that the legal case would be seen as a political witch hunt that would backfire on Democrats. “This is going to hurt Sleepy Joe.”

The adviser had the impression that Trump, who was already coming off a high from the large crowd at his rally in Ohio last weekend, was emboldened by the news. “Now he’s definitely going to run for president” again, the person said.

We are not exactly sure what to make of the report. Is Trump really this stupid? Does he not know that this is just the first shot and that the grand jury is still impaneled and will likely come up with further charges?

The most interesting fact in all this is that it’s an opportunity to view the world through Trump’s prism. Everything relates to politics, which means it’s a fight, which also relates to revenge. He is thrilled that such “light” charges are filed – not giving any thought as to what they might mean to the company – but certain that it will hurt Joe Biden as if Joe Biden initiated this prosecution and is pushing it forward.

For all we know, Trump does believe that Biden pushed the Manhattan D.A. to file the charges. Trump certainly seems to think that he had the power to do such a thing.

But that is how Trump sees the world. The president is the boss of all the land. The Trump Organization was just charged with crimes, and that means Joe Biden is to blame. But they’re light charges (Compared to what? Don? What were you worried about?), and thus this will eventually hurt Joe Biden. We hate to break it to Trump, but Biden has nothing to do with these charges and it won’t impact him at all. We can think of someone it might impact, though.

Unbelievable.
