Everything Trump does has an unspoken angle, rarely is he upfront and honest about anything, with the possible exception of when he talks about his own greatness. At least we can trust that he honestly believes what’s coming out of his mouth.
Yesterday, Trump made an announcement from a podium that had a strange sort of “Donald Trump seal” that looks to be an attempt to retain the imagery of the presidency. Rather pathetic.
But the pathetic seal pales in comparison to the glaring differences between what he told his supporters regarding why he was filing a lawsuit against the tech companies and the real reasons.
As everyone knows, as with everything Trump does, one of the reasons involved money. CNN’s John Brennan noted, this morning that Trump made so many references to donations that it appeared that this was a money-making scheme, not an attempt at anything legally.
We suspect he’s 100% correct because it is Donald Trump, after all. Maggie Haberman agreed. She then pointed to a second, perhaps even more important consideration:
I think the second piece is that this is frankly something of a distraction that he’s trying to set up after his company was indicted last week by the Manhattan district attorney and as his CFO was indicted by the Manhattan district attorney. This is a go-to move of his going back to the early 1970s. if you get sued or in some legal trouble, you counter sue in some way. He’s not able to counter sue the Manhattan D.A. this is what he’s aiming the punch at.”
Haberman also talked about Trump’s incessant need to feel important, like a president.
But the fact that they put out these statements being so aggressive this way is very notable. There is this whether it’s because it makes him feel good or conveys strength or tries that he is not diminished on stage. He’s trying to project this ‘I’m still in power’ image. And he’s not — to be clear.”
Uh. We would never have noticed. No, we refuse to be as cynical as some about Maggie Haberman, for the most part, she does a good job. Watch:
