As we all know, the only real currency utilized by Right Wing media over the last month (other than MAGA coins) are the conspiracy theories concerning COVID, the vaccine, China, and whether Hunter created COVID on his laptop. We might have made that last one up, but give them time, they’ll get to it.
Generally, the conspiracy theories stay in their lane. They are confined to evening opinion shows where they don’t have to pollute what they believe to be real news. Admittedly, Newsmaxx and OAN also report conspiracy theories as straight news, they just don’t go as far as the ones in the evening. Seldom does any of this make it to the press room.
We have heard Peter Doocy from Fox attempt to ask gotcha questions during nearly every press conference. He continues to do it even though Psaki spikes him like a volleyball (Olympic reference) each time. But at least Doocy’s questions apply to real news and attempt to find the administration’s weakest position.
Newsmax went further. Today, they brought their false flag conspiracy theory question straight into the White House press room, leaving Karine Jean-Pierre speechless, at least until she could admit that she didn’t understand WTF was even asked:
It started innocuously:
“How do you know test whether it’s the dominant strain in the area when people just test whether they’re COVID-positive?”
Seriously? Newsmax can’t figure out how the White House knows? This isn’t the dumbest question set out below, but it is a stupid question.
Jean-Pierre answered easily: “We don’t test it, we listen to public health and scientists and they tell us it’s the delta variant.”
Right. The reporter asked about the actual process as if the White House is expected to explain RNA assays and tests. Jean-Pierre noted that she just told him. She then said, “I don’t understand the question,” because there’s no conceivable way a reporter wants the biology of it, right? It then got weirder:
The reporter actually complained that a lot of answers consist of “because [public health experts] say so.” As if there was some conspiracy to hide the real process, or real information under the guise of “because that’s what we know,” in other words, some kind of conspiracy. Newsmax wanted to know why the White House wasn’t explaining the actually assays used to determine various tests.
Jean-Pierre had had it with real answers and just finally laid out the obvious: “Well they’re the experts!”
This is one of the key differences between the administrations. In the Trump administration, Trump was the “expert,” on literally everything. He would even tell Dr. Fauci that Fauci was wrong. This administration leaves sophisticated questions to sophisticated scientists, believing that sophisticated scientists are not out to spread deadly contagion throughout the United States as a political tool. The conspiracy theorists aren’t convinced.
