This column must begin, as we often do, by noting that the Democratic operatives that came up with the “Defund the Police” meme should never be allowed to work in politics again. There is no question that policing must be “reimagined,” or “recreated,” or “reformed,” … but “Defund” can only be interpreted as dissolving the police altogether and even though some on the far far far left believe that to be a good idea, it’s actually moronic. The entirety of police tactics, culture, training, recruitment, and core mission must be overhauled along with criminally charging and convicting those who commit crimes, but damn, “defund the police” almost cost us a presidential election and likely did cost us several House and Senate seats. It may continue into the future.

For that reason, the Right simply will not let it go and poor Jen Psaki is bombarded with questions pertaining to “defunding the police” nearly every single day when she takes to the podium. We have grown to count upon Psaki handling these questions with aplomb, but there are limits to what she can say, given the stupidity of the meme.

Yesterday, Peter Doocy noted that Psaki and Biden both deny that they’ve ever adopted a “defund the police” strategy. Doocy then asked if the White House was concerned that its own Associate Attorney General Vanita Gupta, last year, said that it’s critical for politicians to heed the demands of BLM activists to “decrease police budgets.” (Which we understand is what activists meant by “defund the police” but the entire meaning of the phrase is altered when using “defund” versus “decrease.”)

We admit, straight up, Doocy asked a very fair question given Gupta’s role in the administration and he quoted her directly. Unlike many Doocy questions, this was a hard, piercing, but fair question.

And Psaki was ready with a hard, piercing, blowback, stating that “according to a Fox News report from February, 53% of Police Chiefs and the National Fraternal Order of Police support the nomination of Gupta. Doocy was left to say that according to Gupta’s Senate testimony she supported decreasing police budgets, and Psaki hit right back saying that Gupta also said she opposed defunding the police. And, just to put a cherry on top, Psaki reminded Doocy that Biden didn’t run on defunding the police and has always opposed defunding the police.

Now, that is special, that is press secretary hall of fame worthy and Doocy likely left with bum cheeks as red as Psaki’s gorgeous hair.
