Often, the best response to a ridiculous and hateful accusation is to barely acknowledge it, frustrating the person who uses outrageous accusations precisely because she wants to be in the news.
Jenn Psaki not only understands the truism, but she also possesses near-perfect judgment as to when to use the tactic. She maximized its impact today in dealing with the dangerously driven Marjorie Taylor-Greene.
Yesterday, President Biden announced that the federal government’s vaccination program should do more to help ease the process for certain people, even a willingness to go community to community, and door to door. The declaration was not a formal announcement, only a possible goal. But that didn’t stop MTG from comparing a program to save lives with a program that ended lives. From Politico:
Greene (R-Ga.) on Tuesday called efforts by the Biden White House to vaccinate more Americans against Covid-19 a “political tool” and likened the administration’s on-the-ground push to a Nazi paramilitary wing, the Sturmabteilung, often referred to as “brownshirts.”
“People have a choice, they don’t need your medical brown shirts showing up at their door ordering vaccinations. You can’t force people to be part of the human experiment.”
Marj would have half a point if someone was showing up at the door, ordering vaccinations, and forcing them to be part of a human experiment. Instead, she has a fully sociopathic, insane, and untrue utterance. No one is ordering anyone to be vaccinated, nor forcing vaccinations, nor are vaccinations an experiment.
Psaki sacked the comment like a boss, barely acknowledging MTG, ignored the inflammatory language, and explained the goal:
We don’t take any of our health and medical advice from Marjorie Taylor Greene. What we’ve seen over the course of the last several months is that one of the biggest barriers is access. … It’s up to every individual to decide whether they’re going to get vaccinated.”
Psaki added that she doesn’t think it’s the government’s role to encourage private sector entities to mandate the vaccine, but instead to provide supply and work with local communities to improve access.
Psaki is one of the most valuable members of the administration, which is undoubtedly why Fox News does its best to ignore her entirely. We predict that Fox and the Right will spend more time discussing Greene’s comment than Psaki’s answer.
