One of the many defining characteristics of a cult is that the members take on the personality of the leader. So it is with the MAGAs.

At any point where something unquestionably went wrong under Trump, like COVID, he either blamed the Democrats or ignored the matter altogether. He would accuse people of “fake news” that was created “to get Trump,” as he often said, using the insane-sounding third-person. Now we see the MAGAs in Congress taking on the same personality, perhaps under orders from the same person. It has been decided by whoever decides these things on behalf of the GOP that there will be no investigation of January 6th. They say, “it would all be political.”

So?

Everything about that day was political. The GOP is now acting like a spoiled three-year-old. Or an abused spouse. They refuse to acknowledge that day because it could make them look bad, it’s messy, it doesn’t feel good, it’s hard… they might get grounded. Now it sounds like the order has come down that Kevin McCarthy must not name anyone to the committee. He is to let the Democrats go it alone with Liz Cheney.

This, according to former GOP Rep. Charlie Dent, is a mistake: (Video Below)

“I think that would be a mistake. If you pick no one, well then the Democrats — and of course, Liz Cheney (R-WY) — they will control the narrative. And I think if they’re smart, the Democrats will be smart about this, they’ll try to be very fair and balanced in the investigation. Obviously an independent commission would have been preferable. But the attack on the select committee will be that it’s a partisan witch hunt. So, it will be incumbent upon the Democrats to be balanced.”

“But I think it would be a terrible mistake for the GOP not to be represented on that committee other than Liz Cheney, because if they want to make their arguments, that will be the place to do it. So I do think he has [a tremendous benefit] to appoint people.”

Yeah, there is that. But we suspect that Dent is overestimating the MAGAs a bit here. They want to be able to scream witch hunt, and they also want to be able to create their own conspiracy theories. It is much harder to create a conspiracy theory when one is allowed to sit there and ask about it. Much better to sit on the sidelines and just make sh*t up that will never be addressed in an actual investigation.

After all, they take on the persona of the leader, who might be the most paranoid conspiracy theorist to ever hold the office.
