Fox and the MAGA politicians are positive that they have two winning issues that they can pound from now until 2022 and probably until 2024 and give themselves in a chance to win. They might be right.
Sad as it is, there is a mushy middle America, that 5-10% that could vote either way. They likely voted for Trump in 2016 because they hated Hillary for both misogynistic reasons and some Clinton fatigue. They gave Trump a shot and for the first bit Trump managed to be insane, but the economy was okay and no one got hurt. By the second term, it was clear that people were getting hurt, badly, and Trump lost, badly.
But that mushy middle doesn’t like unchecked immigration (which isn’t happening, but the PR propaganda makes it seem like it’s happening. They are also terrified of Critical Race Theory despite the fact that they have no idea what it is. So the MAGAs and Fox think they have two reasons for optimism going into 2022.
The problem is that the head MAGA doesn’t want to talk about any of that. He doesn’t care about the future. His pain lies in the past and he cannot move on until he avenges his loss. Thus, rather than talk about the good stuff, he keeps going back, humiliating himself, to the point that Fox cut him off:
“We had an election where we did much better than we did the first time and amazingly we lost. I just want to thank the people of Texas because we won in a landslide. It wasn’t even close.”
No, he doesn’t want to thank the people of Texas. They had nothing to do with his loss. He just wants to be able to talk about his landslide and someone how had to mention Texas.
“We got 12 million more votes than we got the first time. We better get our elections straightened out because you’re going to have a runaway country, you’re going to have a banana republic, you’re going to have a third world country here pretty soon because our elections are a mess.”
Someone has to explain to him that he wasn’t running against himself and the guy running against him. Indeed, he left a banana republic, did he not notice the attempted coup at the Capitol? Trump tried to make the election meaningless.
But details, details, details, even Fox cut away. His details were too embarrassing and he refuses to talk about the things that might help MAGAs win.
