In late December we wrote a series, “Goodbye to All That,” in which we said goodbye to each individual member of the Trump administration with a separate column dedicated to each one. We saved Kush for last (Trump himself was undeserving) because Kush was the one with blood on his hands from two separate incidents. One of them had to do with COVID. Even then we underestimated the magnitude of the damage he did.

Our article specifically noted that 95% of Americans in his shoes back in 2016, when offered a position as one of the very top presidential advisers, with that thin a resume and immaturity, would have said, “Thank you, it’s an honor, but that position needs to go to someone with 30 years of experience. I might make a dangerous mistake.” Again, it doesn’t take a hero to make that decision, 95% of Americans would’ve said just that. Kush is one of the 5% and he did turn out to be dangerous.

In a new book on the epidemic and the White House’s criminally reckless response, a finger is pointed directly at Jared for a mistake that we hadn’t heard much about. (We know most of the mistakes, they’re impossible to miss). The Daily Beast covers a new book,  Nightmare Scenario, by Yasmeen Abutaleb and Damian Paletta, in which they say:

Jared Kushner is the epitome of the fuckup trope in every movie ever.

He tries to help, but doesn’t. In most cases, he actually makes things worse, and that was the case during the pandemic last year according to Yasmeen Abutaleb, health policy reporter at the Washington Post, and Damian Paletta, its economics editor.

Yeah, true, our only quibble is who was he “trying to help”? Because sometimes we wondered.

They specifically reference his idea to divert testing to drive-thrus in the private sector, like at CVS’ and Walgreens’.

Should Kamala Harris Run for President in 2028?

“When he came in and wanted to launch that initiative, he actually caused a two-week shortage of testing because all the swabs and a lot of the personal protective equipment had been diverted to this drive-thru site.”

That’s Jared. “Ready, Fire, Aim!” We have all read reports over the years that Jared thinks that all the smart people are in business because that’s where the money is. All smart people want money, right? In Jared’s world, there are no genius English teachers out there in our nation’s high schools, despite the fact that if he opened his eyes they’re literally everywhere. So, of course, Jared’s first response would be to involve “business people” in the fight against COVID.

Little did Jared know that the federal government is the biggest “business” in America and when it sets its mind to solving a massive national defense issue, it has a pretty good record. But it takes a smart guy to realize it. Jared, the business guy, proved to be pretty stupid. That’s okay, stupid people are everywhere, too. They’re just not supposed to be top aides in the White House.
