Teachers are amazing people. Teachers who teach other teachers are that much more amazing, they’re masters of the dark arts, sending a message without people realizing they just learned something. This time, though, Jill Biden didn’t need to hide her message, not really. She dunked on Trump right out in the open, without saying his name, probably showing off a bit. She has earned the right. The quotes below come from her lengthy article in this month’s Vogue.
The first point, relatively subtle, and yet hammering, Dr. Biden noted: “People can breathe again” since Biden took over.
We don’t think she was referencing declining COVID numbers. Though the MAGAs are still dangerous, we don’t live day to day like sharing a home with an alcoholic abusive father. We can breathe.
Furthermore, it was Jill who persuaded Joe to run because she knew damn well what was going on: “You gotta run. Because there’s so much at stake.” She is absolutely right about that. Even those of us who originally supported someone else for the nomination have come around to recognize that Joe was likely the only one who could beat Trump, sad as that is to say. Like everything else, Jill was way ahead of us.
And then the summation:
“During the campaign, I felt so much anxiety from people; they were scared. When I travel around the country now, I feel as though people can breathe again. I think that’s part of the reason Joe was elected. People wanted someone to come in and heal this nation, not just from the pandemic, which I feel Joe did by, you know, getting shots in everybody’s arms. But also…he’s just a calmer president. He lowers the temperature.
“Calmer?”
Sometimes the MAGAs like to say that Joe is senile. Wrong. Joe is just normal. The MAGAs are used to a ranting and raving lunatic, yelling at everyone. When they see a healthy aging gentleman who acts like a gentleman, a gentleman who knows that the nation is wounded and needs soothing, the MAGAs call it senility. It might be the sharpest read Biden’s ever made.
Of course, he has a good teacher.
